Music Class

Ivory Clusters are IN-PERSON group lessons with a ratio of 5-8 students to one teacher. These group lessons are intended for daycares, after school programs, summer camps, etc.

“Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.”

–          Confucius, Book of Rites

Our music educators have created curricula with 4, 6, and 9 weeks options that exposes students to various musical genres, styles, and music methodologies. Although our instructors teach reading and writing music, often times music pedagogy is approached through “sound before symbol” and a rote approach. This means that teachers will facilitate a musical activity where students sing, play instruments, move, play a game, or make musical decisions without seeing any notation. Much like we learn a language by speaking before reading, elementary music teachers promote literacy through a parallel model. Therefore, students are not sitting at desks sounding out rhythms or melodic lines, but rather they are moving and creating in open space to speak the language of elementary music.
